Fall Photos -- the long-awaited conclusion

So, we're now into the fifth year of our fall photo tradition and I thought it would be fun to take a stroll down memory lane and how this tradition was formed.

It started out as simply an excuse to get up to the mountains and see the changing leaves. It was also an excuse to get the kids exposed a little more to the outdoors. Our first trip was to Silver Lake in American Fork Canyon. We actually attempted a hike with everyone and our dog Mia, too. I brought the camera along as an afterthought, but soon had a ton of fun taking pictures of the kids playing and enjoying themselves in the fall sun.

On the way back down to Lehi, we stopped at a small rest area and let the kids get out and play a little more. They all scampered up on top of a big boulder and sat. I grabbed by camera and got this picture...


The part I love about this shot is that the kids are so dirty - look at Dallin's legs - but they were happy. And the sun hit Krissy's hair just right. This is quite possibly the perfect picture, taken with an old-school 3 megapixel digital camera.

So the next year we decided to try it again, traveling up American Fork Canyon to Cascade Springs. Again, I brought my old camera along and talked someone into snapping this shot below...

Again, I loved it. The kids smiled good, the coloring was perfect and the scene was perfect.

The next year, we had moved to Arizona. We wanted to keep the tradition alive and shot this picture in Sedona at the big Catholic church on the hill...

This wasn't the best of shots, but we again were able to capture the kids in their young, happy stage. The red rock background wasn't too bad either.

Last year, after having moved back to Utah, we tried our hand at Provo Canyon - and got this awesome shot of the kids at the base of Bridal Veil falls...

We also took the picture at the top of this blog with the Planet Poyfair title on it.

So, last week you saw my shots of our most recent round of fall photos. For a little change this year we also invited the Halcrows, Mark Craner's family as well as Mom and Dad. Dad was kind enough to bring his camera and snapped the below photo at Sundance ...

So, that's our little fall photo journey. It's a fun tradition. If you have any ideas of where to go next year, we'd love to have them.

Karli got a little curveball thrown at her this week, getting a call from Ridgeline Elementary where she works asking her to substitute for one of the 1st grade teachers. Since she already works with the 1st graders, she was all set and did a great job. Karli is very popular with the first graders -- they often stop her while were out and say hi and then introduce her to their mom or dad. It's cute.

Karli also stole Tammy's rice crispy treat recipe... pouring melted Hershey's Kandy Korn Kisses on top of the treats. We fought over them all weekend. Mmmmmm.

Saturday night we loaded up the kids and purchased pumpkins for the lot of them. We then drove straight home and got to work!
